Dan Hopkins
About: Daniel Hopkins works within the realms of modern media, originally trained as a filmmaker and working within the film and TV industry. Hopkins has diversed over his career into areas of experimental music, installation and curation.
Currently Hopkins makes music as Hurra caine Landcrash, which he has released various records on split femur recordings, noground-r, Cytherea records and first person records.
As a musician he has had spot play on some of London's cool internet radio stations - Resonance FM and ILL FM - as well as picking up plays and accolades in Sweden, Canada and Italy. Having self released three albums to date, occupying a place in the current Avant Garde, Dan's work is impossible to pigeonhole, and it is far from conventional. Using a guitar as an instrument in a totally new way, i.e. dropping shells, pebbles and stones on the strings and body to extract "noisy textures" which are then processed in real time through various filters and effects using a laptop, Dan discovers strange and intriguing ambient noises. What is produced for the listener is a musical voyage reminiscent on the one hand of no wave punk and then sweeping to more ethereal esoteric sound-scapes. His work is disorientating, strange and at the same time oddly familiar.
As a filmmaker Dan has had worked commissioned by Channel 4 (UK) and DVDs published by the Arts Council of England.
He has worked with a number of musicians over the years creating music videos for bands like The Telescopes, Mountain Men Anonymous, Epic 45, Füxa and many more.
As an artist Hopkins has had exhibitions in Serbia, Germany, France, and Japan. Current work includes a new album as Hurra caine Landcrash for split femur recordings. Music videos for Herzoga, Spectrum Fires, and Epic 45. And working within the Manchester arts collective Blank Media.
